1. Wash at a lower temperature (30°C is the new 40°C)
Most modern detergents — and especially detergent strips — are already fully effective at 30 degrees. By lowering the temperature, you can significantly reduce your energy consumption per wash. In addition, the fibers in your clothes wear out less quickly, so your favorite shirt lasts longer.
2. Don’t overfill the machine (but don’t leave it too empty either)
An overfilled drum prevents the detergent from reaching everything and stops the clothes from moving properly, causing stains to remain. An underfilled drum, on the other hand, is simply a waste of water and electricity. The golden rule? You should still just be able to place your hand vertically on top of the laundry in the drum.
3. Say goodbye to liquid spills and heavy bottles
Many people unknowingly use too much liquid detergent. This causes 'grease buildup' in your machine, which leads to unpleasant odors. Switch to detergent strips. They are pre-measured: one strip is exactly enough for one full drum. No mess, no waste.
4. Wash your clothes inside out
It takes little effort but makes a big difference. By washing clothes (especially jeans and printed shirts) inside out, you protect the outside from friction in the drum. This keeps colors bright for longer and helps prints stay looking great much longer.
5. Clean your machine once a month
A clean machine means clean laundry. Once a month, run an empty drum at 90 degrees with a splash of white vinegar or a special cleaner. This removes limescale and detergent residue, helping your machine last longer and keeping your laundry smelling fresh.
